Why Did Diablo 4’s Events Once Again Lose To Diablo Immortal?

Both Diablo 4 and Diablo 4 Immortal recently held events. Diablo 4's was the March of the Goblins, while Diablo Immortal's was a collaboration with Hearthstone. Many players consider Diablo Immortal's event to be the better one.

The best event in Diablo 4 is back: March of the Goblins, which launched in June. This event involves placing a bunch of colorful goblins around the game. When you kill them, they drop various goblins from their bags.

Coincidentally, Diablo Immortal also launched a new event: Diablo Immortal x Hearthstone collaboration, where players can collect Hearthstone cards in-game. Which of these two events is more fun? I’m sure you know the answer.

Why Did Diablo 4’s Events Once Again Lose To Diablo Immortal?

Previously, this event simply increased the spawn rate of Treasure Goblins, rewarding players with a large amount of Diablo 4 gold each time they killed them. In Season 7, they upgraded the event by adding six new goblin variants carrying different Diablo 4 materials, including Mythic Unique items and a Resplendent Spark.

This event is similar to Season 7, with six Goblin variants and their rewards as follows:

  • Odious Ector: Crafting materials
  • Gilded Baron: Gold and Aberrant Cinders
  • Glittering Prym: Diablo 4 Runes, gems, and Scattered Prisms.
  • Curious Murl: Obols.
  • Gelatinous Syrus: Legendary items and more.
  • Fancy Old Fedric: Mythic Unique Items and a Resplendent Spark.

While it may sound harsh, every goblin is worth slaying, especially Fancy Old Fedric. This pink goblin carries the best rewards, and losing him will probably keep you awake at night.

While this event isn’t new, no one complains about these moving treasures. The event was originally scheduled to run from July 29th to August 5th. Players can check the progress of the event by visiting Goblin Statue in Kyovashad.

This event could have been a surprise, but Diablo 4 developers always have a way of letting things slide in unexpected ways. Right after the event started, some players discovered they couldn’t find the statues, a serious issue that the developers were fixing while also suggesting the event might be postponed. Well, an extra day or two to farm Diablo 4 gold and materials isn’t bad.

Whatever, March of the Goblins is a great activity, actually. If you have other classes you’d like to play, I recommend searching for the various goblins in Sanctuary; their rewards can significantly reduce your farming time. Goblins are more likely to spawn in PvP areas, so be wary of sniping from other players when searching for them.

Diablo Immortal x Hearthstone Collaboration

Diablo Immortal x Hearthstone collaboration begins on July 30th, similar to March of the Goblins, but will last a month, ending around August 27th.

During the event, players can collect 18 classic Hearthstone cards.

This event doesn’t actually let you play Hearthstone in Diablo Immortal. Instead, you can treat these cards as items, and using them grants you corresponding affixes, granting you buff in various modes.

In addition, as long as you log in during the event, you’ll receive the following rewards:

  • 2-Star Manaflux Legendary Gem
  • 10 Legendary Crests
  • Azure Serpent Portal cosmetic
  • Amethyst Longhorn Avatar Frame

As a mobile game, Diablo Immortal’s events maintain their usual style. If you don’t play the game, you might think it offers a lot. However, only players know that without Diablo Immortal Eternal Orb, it’s difficult to keep up with other players.

However, Diablo Immortal event wasn’t perfect either. It was recently embroiled in a scandal involving alleged AI-generated imagery used in its promotional images.

Why Is Diablo Immortal Better?

Although Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal share the same IP, they are not developed by the same team; each product is independently developed and managed.

As a mobile game, Diablo Immortal boasts advantages such as a short development cycle and rapid monetization, so rapid content updates are essential to prevent it from being overtaken by competing titles.

While Diablo 4 includes collaborative content, it can also be played completely independently. Furthermore, because of its higher standards for graphics and story, its development cycle is typically longer.

Does comparing them seem unfair? However, Diablo 4’s biggest problem is its lack of innovation, its lack of creativity. Some Diablo 4 players may look down on Diablo Immortal, even arguing that its developers aren’t strictly part of the parent company. However, this event demonstrates that Diablo Immortal is exploring new gameplay mechanics and is more closely connected to Blizzard’s other titles, something the old event March of the Goblins couldn’t match.

The main reason Diablo 4 is currently criticized for being too simplistic and lacking in gameplay depth compared to previous games in the series. While simple gameplay may attract new players, it’s also a struggle to retain them. Hopefully, Diablo 4 Season 10 can effectively utilize its resources to break new ground and add new content.
