Diablo 4 Season 14 Horadric Cube Crafting Ultimate Guide | How Affixes Lock Works?
Players who don't yet know how to craft powerful gear using the Horadric Cube in Diablo 4 Season 14 will fall far behind. Read this guide to find out everything you need to know.
In Diablo 4 Season of Death Awakening, Horadric Cube has received an unprecedented major upgrade. It's no longer just a simple crafting tool, but a core system that completely changes how equipment is built. Based on practical experience, I will break down every trick and secret of Horadric Cube crafting for you - from how to craft triple damage gloves, to precautions when crafting various equipment, and how to upgrade Unique to Mythic.
Equipment Affixes Crafting

In Season 14, the most powerful feature of Horadric Cube is its ability to lock affixes for targeted operations. Specifically, you can lock a high-quality affix, then safely remove other useless affixes, and then re-add the ideal affix combination. Let's take crafting a pair of triple damage gloves as an example:
Step 1: Obtain the base material
Go to Purveyor of Curiosities in Diablo 4 and gamble with Murmuring Obols to find a glove with a Greater Affix that has a critical strike damage multiplier as the base.
Step 2: Remove unwanted affixes
For example, Resistance to All Elements can be removed with Chromatic Tuning Prism; Fortify Generation can be removed with Pragmatic Tuning Prism.
Step 3: Lock the core affixes
Go to Enchanter, lock the critical strike damage multiplier, and select No Change. This affix will then be permanently attached to the equipment and cannot be removed.
Step 4: Add and Focused Reroll
Use Aggressive Tuning Prism to add the attack affix. Hold down the F key to perform a Focused Reroll. Since the critical strike damage is locked, Focused Reroll will never hit it. Repeatedly reroll until you get Vulnerable Damage Multiplier or All Damage Multiplier you need.
Step 5: Repeat the process to obtain a third multiplier
Add a third attack affix, such as Shadow Damage Multiplier, and then optimize the value using Focused Reroll.
Step 6: Masterworking and Tempering
A key tip here: Masterworking first, then Tempering. Masterworking only gives the gear four native affixes, making it easier to hit critical strike damage multipliers; Tempering adds one more affix on top of the four, and has a chance to trigger Greater Affix.
Step 7: Transfigure
Transfigure the gear using Volatile Primordial Dust in Horadric Cube. Without Tuning Prism, Transfigure may give extremely good or bad random bonuses and make the gear unmodifiable. With Tuning Prism, the worst affix is removed, but the best affix is also removed, and a usable bonus is consistently obtained.
Amulets, Armor & Boots
Amulets: Skill Ranks are Key
The crafting process for amulets is exactly the same as for gloves, the only difference being the final step - using Adept's Tuning Prism to reroll for Skill Ranks. For Necromancers, Darkness Skill Ranks are the core damage affix and must be obtained.
Armor: Lock in Life and Armor
Taking Chest Armor as an example: If the base item has Greater Affix for Armor, first lock in Armor in the Enchanter, then remove all other affixes. Next, add defensive affixes (using Protector's Tuning Prism) and reroll for Maximum Life. Then add a second defensive affix (such as Resistance to All Elements), and finally use Adept's Tuning Prism to add core attributes (such as Intelligence) to finish.
Boots: Prioritize Movement Speed
Boots are the easiest to craft: use Pragmatic Tuning Prism to add affixes that increase mobility and reroll for Movement Speed. If the base material already has a movement speed (GA) attribute, directly add other necessary affixes, such as Essence Regeneration (using Resourceful Tuning Prism).

Weapon's Special Handling
Weapon crafting is slightly different; some weapons' Intelligence attribute also has an offensive component. If I fix the weapon's damage value but remove critical hit damage, I might also remove the damage from its Intelligence attribute, which is obviously disadvantageous. Therefore, we have two strategies to use in this situation.
- Strategy 1: Directly add offensive affixes, then use Focused reroll to optimize the existing critical hit damage multiplier value.
- Strategy 2: Use Chaotic Reroll to convert useless affixes into useful ones. For example, reroll Essence on Kill to critical hit damage multiplier. Chaotic Reroll randomly selects an affix for rerolling, and combined with Tuning Prism, it can be targeted to a specific affix type.
Unique Upgrades to Mythic
One of the biggest changes to Diablo 4 items in Season 14 is that Mythic is no longer an independent rarity, but a modifiable item quality. All Unique items can potentially become Mythic.
By placing a Unique item with power 850 or higher and 5 Pandemonium Fragments into Horadric Cube, you can upgrade it into a random Mythic item in the same slot. Since the upgrade result is random within the same slot, it's recommended to use surplus or low-value Unique items for the upgrade, avoiding sacrificing core Unique items that your current build depends on.
Diablo 4 Season 14's Horadric Cube crafting system is extremely sophisticated. Mastering techniques like affix locking, focused reroll, masterworking, and the order of tempering allows you to craft far superior gear compared to regular drops in a short time. Hopefully, this guide will help you achieve more with less effort this season and quickly create your own endgame gear.
