After Season 14 PTR test, you can truly feel the fun of the live version. Even though some players were dissatisfied, the developers will make changes based on feedback, so it's really something to look forward to.

Without further ado, let's take a look at the end-of-season guide I've prepared for you today, or rather, the new season preparation guide.

Diablo 4 Season 14 Preparation Guide: What Carries Over? | Best Classes and Essential Start Tips

Character Transfer

A fundamental principle that both new and veteran players must understand - Diablo 4 has two game modes: Seasonal Realm and Eternal Realm.

Seasonal characters are designed to experience brand-new seasonal content, including new seasonal mechanics, bosses, and exclusive upgrades. These areas are updated every few months, forcing players to start from scratch. Eternal Realm allows you to experience the core game content. Your character will never be refreshed or reset. Unless certain seasonal features are tested and become permanent core content, Eternal Realm will not offer the season-specific mechanics.

When Diablo 4 Season 13 ends, all your Seasonal characters will automatically transfer to Eternal Realm. They will retain all equipment, skills, and Paragon Levels. However, they will lose the season-specific mechanics active in Season of Reckoning.

The entire process is completely automatic and requires no manual intervention. After updating the game and logging in, you will find that your Seasonal characters have been transferred to Eternal Realms.

Retention and Deletion

This is the most crucial part of the character transfer process. What will be retained and what will be deleted?

  • Characters
  • Stash and Inventory
  • Renown, Map Progress and Altars
  • Cosmetics and Clans
  • Gold and Materials

Additionally, all your loot from the previous season will be temporarily stored in a temporary storage tab in your Eternal Realm. You must retrieve it yourself upon logging in and place it in your Eternal stash; otherwise, Diablo 4 Items will be permanently deleted when Season 14 ends.

Season Reset

Many players ask if I transfer my Seasonal character to Eternal, will my Eternal character become a Seasonal character? The answer is definitely no.

Whether you played a Seasonal character or an Eternal character in Season 13, it will not transfer to your Season 14 character. Every new season is a hard reset. This means your new season character will:

  • Have no equipment or weapons
  • Have no Gold
  • Have no materials, gems, Runes, or Lair Boss Keys
  • Have no Paragon experience

You'll have to start from the very beginning.

Practical Advice

So, now that you know all the resources you accumulated in Diablo 4 Season 13 won't be carried over to your new season character, what can you do to prepare for your new season character?

  1. Skip Campaign: If you've already completed the campaign in Season 13, you can skip it when Season of Pandemonium launches, saving several hours of map clearing time.
  2. Leveling Strategy: Choose a class build that clears maps quickly and allows for rapid leveling. Currently, Whirlwind Barbarian is considered one of the best choices for leveling up during the early game, offering fast monster clearing speed, high mobility, and stamina.
  3. Obtain early materials through Dungeons: By the end of the season, your character should be able to handle the highest difficulty Dungeons, allowing you to acquire more loot in the final stages.
  4. Skill Tree Node Selection: Skill Tree has an upgrade path. You can check which node to choose for each skill upgrade. You also gain a skill point upon leveling up, allowing you to reach level 2 at the start of the season.
  5. Research Equipment in Advance: Before Season 14 arrives, research the equipment your build needs, including how to obtain it and upgrade guides.
  6. Team Up with Friends: Most players prefer solo play, but teaming up makes completing quests easier and significantly reduces the early game difficulty.

Class Selection

According to Diablo 4 Season 14 PTR testing, the new season's class adjustments mainly focus on damage reduction and re-combination strategies. This means that melee classes may be a more suitable choice in the new season.

In PTR, Sorcerer damage was significantly nerfed, while Paladin and Rogue base damage and signature skills received significant buffs. Barbarian remain very strong despite these nerfs.

Choosing a class and build that adapts well to the new season will greatly improve your early leveling efficiency.

Some players might question whether nerfing class damage would make the game too difficult. There's no need to worry. Season 14 PTR shows that once players reach level 150 and enter the final stages, boss difficulty will reach a soft cap and won't increase further.

Therefore, you don't need to worry about your class strength plateauing in the late game, making it impossible to complete the game.

In short, now is definitely the best time to prepare for Season of Pandemonium. Treat Eternal as your main character and Seasonal as your alt; your efforts each season will not be in vain.
